MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE
The first meeting of the newly-elccled Management Committee of the Hoys' Institute was held last week, when the following members were present: Mr. L. X. Watkins (chairman), Mesdniiies AValkins and Slautoii, Messrs. AY". A. Parton, T. ]■!. Gill, AY. Shipton, 11. I^eali, L. Culvert, A. Orr, A. Jolinstono, J. Howitt, J. Banks (treasurer), Oorgc Ji. Brown, and the director. Mr. AValkins, in introducing the new members to the committee, gave them a warm welcome. He assured them that they would find their association with the committee congenial, and hoped that they would have a happy and prosperous term of office. The director's report showed tuat tne work of the Institute activities was np to the average, and that attendances had improved. The cricket seasou just concluded had been very successful, especially among the junior boys. The junior A team won the .championship, h. Bezzant, captain, won the presidents trophy, and AY. Kristiansen won the director s trophy, as well as the Boys' Cricket Association trophies for having the best batting and bowling average. The intermediate team were rimners-up in their grade. Soccer teams had been entered m the fourth, fifth, sixth, seventh, 8A and 8B grades, and in the fourth, fifth, sixth, and eighth grades in Rugby. Occasion was taken to bid good-bye uo the retiring treasurer, Mr. George X Brown. Mr. Brown was the recipient of a presentation made by Mr. Watkins!, who remarked that Mr. Brown had been treasurer for the past fifteen years. He spoke of the happy associations which had always existed between them. Mr. Brown had been a most useful committeeman, and had been most assiduous in attention to his duties. They were sorry to lose such a valued officer, but he wished him every good wish in his retirement. Mr. Brown replied. Parton; band, Mr. D. J. Dalghsh (chairman), Messrs. A. Orr and L. Calvcrt; sports and swimming, Mr. W. A. Parton (chairman), Messrs. J. Howitt and L. Calvert; play area, Mr. J. Howitt (chairman), Hesters. H. Leah and A. Johnston: secretarial and office, Mr. K. V. Moore (chairman), Messrs. W. Ferguson and G. Baudinet; bath, Mr. H. Leah (chairman). Messrs. AY. A. Parton and B. Staff; cinema, Mr. I. Gibson, (chairman), Messrs. W..Shipton and D. J. Dalglish: library, Mr. T. Gill (chairman), Messrs. I. Gibsfon and W. Ferguson; meccano, Mr. W. Ferguson Messrs. A. Ore and W. Shipton; games room, Mr. A. Orr (chairman), Messrs. B. Staff and R. D. Moore; Scouts, Mr. W. Shipton (chairman), Messrs. D. J. Dalclish and G. Baudinet; carpenters* -workshop Mr. B.
