UNEMPLOYED GIRLS
REGISTER AT AUCKLAND
(Special to "The Evening Post.") ' AUCKLAND, ISth April.' . Tlio National Council of Women, in co-operation with the Y.W.C.A., opeijcd a register about a fortnight ago at tho Y.W.C.A. building for-unemployed girls; 851 registrations have, been recorded and 473 re-registrations., The ivoraan officer, of the Hospital Board attends at intervals with a view of assisting girls who are destitute. . "The system is working quite satisfactorily," said Miss Bcntham, general secretary: of' the Y.W.G.A., thia. morning, "but there has not been sufficient time for proper analysis to be made. We are doing our best to find as much work as possible, but with trade as bad as it is, it is impossible to find work for many of the girls in their ordinary avocations. "What is needed," she said, "is an appeal to our women folk to provide emergency jobs. There are many people who could find a limited amount of work for girls to tide them over these difficult times. As soon as trade picks np again, firms will take their girls back, but in the meantime if -women will assist, it will be a great help."
