ARRIVAL AT OTTAWA
NEW GOVERNOR-GENERAL
COLOURFUL CEREMONIES
I . OTTAWA, Bth April. The city received the Earl and Countess of Bessborough with colourful ceremonies, touched with details of aucieut Royal splendour. Military guards of honour made a striking background at the decorated railway station, where foreign . and domestic dignitaries greeted the Viceregal party. Thousands of people jammed the streets in fine weather, and warmly cheered the new Governor-Gene-ral. The Mayor, Mr. Allen, delivered a spcecli of welcome in which he complimented the Earl of Bessborough on his family traditions and, addressing the Countess, said: "The citizens of Ottawa already are charmed and captivated by the gracious reputation which has preceded Her Excellency." Viscount Duncannon immediately took the wheel of one of the official motors and drove off into the neighbouring countryside for a tour of inspection.
