FEILDING MEETING
SATURDAY'S PROSPECTS
Sharing interest with the Waivarupa Meeting for racegoers in the Wellington district is the opening day of the lreilding Jockey Club's Easter Sleeting on Saturday. The good acceptances throughout the cai'd assure first-class contests. At most recent advice the track -was expected to be in excellent order, and would be 'firm unless rain falls meanwhile. The first race starts at 11.30. The caird and prospects are:— KAWA KAWA HURDLES, of 150 soys; about ono mile and a half and 130 yards. st lb st lb lAul Acre ..11 5 Goldlike ... 9 0 FuU JJtark ... 10 13 .Latakiu .... 0 0 Fiua Acre ... 10 10 Spearopa ... 9 0 Hymsriwt .... 10 1 Kopje 0 0 - GobliM Market 9 10 Arch Eagle ..90 Ma'nawatu form provides a line on the Kawa Kawa Hurdles, and there is a likelihood that Royal Acre, Full Mark, and'Hymgreat will again^contest the finish. Riojyal Acre has gone up Gib for his win an. the second day, and Hymgreat lib for !nis second, Full Mark dropping a pound. JTull Mark therefore has every chance of making an improved return, and he \vill be one of the favourites. Royal Acre, /nevertheless, is very well, and the slightly shorter distance will suit him. A lightweight prospect is Goldlike, who is reported to be schooling attractively. Favourites may be Full Mark and Royal Acre. . ONGO HACK HANDICAP, of 150 sots ; six ■ . : ■ furlongs. . . . ■ st lb st lb KnoUme're' .. 9 0 Golden Shadow 711 Glen Rossie .. 8 8 Navaho 710 Leisure .... S 5 Moatoa .... 7 8 Araiean .... 8 4 Goldzone ... I 0 Wallaruh -.8 4 A fair field of useful hacks is.listed for the Ongo Hack Handicap, but, although several will be supported, the largest followings. are. assured for Knollmere and Glen Rossie. The latter was the unlucky horse in the blanket finish at Awapuni, and with three-pounds the better of the argument here he will be hard to beat. Others witli definite chances are Leisure and Nahavo. The. public will have a reverse if the hoist does not include Glen Kossie and Knollmere. MANCHESTER HANDICAP, of fiOO eovs; one mile and a quarter. st lb Et lb High Mutin' 8 2 Kahikatoa ..7 4 Pnhu ...... 8 1 Mount Shannon 7 2 Chopin. 7-11 Monalof .... 7 1 Paitonu 7 8 Mountain Heath 7 0 Moutoa .. ' Calaraine ... 70 Treasury 7 .5 The issue in the Manchester Handicap is'very open, with all the acceptors distinct possibilities. High Falutin' and Pahu will be strongly supported, and Chopin .and Paitonu will also not want for friends. Among them alone it is difficult to discriminate, but Awapuni running suggests Pahu. Best among the lightweights may be the Opunake Cup winner, Monalof, and' Mountain Heath, who came fast into fourth place in the main handicap on the second day at Awapuni. Two who should go well are Pahu and Paitonu. MAIDEN STAKES, of 130 soys; six furlongs, st lb st lb White Squall ..87 Monaderva .. S 7 Thermopylae .. 8 7 Swiftray .... 8 7 Lord Merriwee 8 7 Infusion 8 7 Black Duehesa 8 7 Thrasher .... 8 7 , Priscilla Verne 8 7 Chtef Lino ... 8 7 Nimble ■-, 8 7 Katrina 8 7 Form does not assist much in the search for the possible winner of the Maiden Stakes, for most of those engaged have had lots of chances. Nimble and Black Duchess have been nearest success on earlier occasions, and they will have good followings. Best of the others may be Infusion, a member of a stable (G. W. New's) that often holds a winner for such races. Likely to be in at the finish are Nimble and Infusion. TAONUI HACK HANDICAP, of ISO soys: seven furlongs. . st lb st lb Maliora .... 910 Blacksmith ..8 0 The Warden . 8 8 Nightmare . 7 12 Tentcall ... S 8 Misa Slier ... 7 12 .Easterly ...8 G Park. Acre.. 7 11 Bon Eve ' 8 1 Class in the Taonui Hack Handicap is moderate for the most part, nevertheless the. issue is as open as any on the card. The one with the best credentials, Mahora, appears to have enough weight, and it may be wiser to look for the winner lower down the list. Tciilcall should be the better for her Opuiuike racing, and others who are capable of useful performances are Bon Eve, Blacksmith, and Miss Shef, who have been running prominently lately. Good support is probable for Bon Eve and Tentcall. MANGAONE HANDICAP, of 300 soys; six furlongs. st 11) st lb Consent .... 9 5 Itoyal Routine 7 7 Richfield 8 1 Aston ...... 73 Just an Idea . 8 0 Sight Draft .70 Orapai ..... 7 8 Limosin 7 0 Best performed among the sprinters in the Mangaone Handicap is Consent, and post of favouritism appears assured for him. However, it must not be overlooked that he has a heavier impost than that which kept, him from winning at Awapuni, and more lightly-weighted candidates in Just an Idea, Orapai, and Royal Routine will keep him busy. Two who should take some catching'are Orapai and Royal Routine. ONEPUHI HACK HANDICAP, of 200 soys: one mile and a distance. st 11) ' st lb Spearful ... 9 0 Litllc Doubt . 8 0 Grand Jury .90 Laconic 8 5 Lordlilce ... 811 Warzone ... 7 S Spearform .. • 8 9 Jadarlno ... 7 5 Arrowhead . 8 7 Fancy is likely to be well spread in the Onepuhi Hack Handicap, for nothing appears to hold an outstanding chance. Two who have been racing well during the autumn are Little Doubt and Laconic, and they may be among the favourites. Others whose most recent showings have been good are Grand Jury, .Spearform, and Arrowhead, while Lordlike is due for an improved effort. Perhaps the best returns will bo" made by Laconic and Little Doubt. ' HALCOMBE HANDICAP, of 230 suvs; seven furlongs. st lb st lb Cashier .... 8 13 Itory Mor ... 8 4, Richfield ... 8 13 Playground ..8 2 P«ratoo .... 8 9 Gold Cure .. 8 1 ttoyal Opera 8 7 Fltzqiiex .. '7 13 Gold Dawn ... 8 (i .lugsln 7 12 Keddar ...... 8 5 I.imosln ... 711 Koyal Routine S !> lied Fuchsia . 7 11 Palko 8 5 (Jlenstar ... 7 11 Green Linnet . S 5 .luyspear ... 711 Biggest field of the day is carded for the Halcombo Handicap, and the race offers probably the hardest problem on the programme. Richfield, Paratoo, Gold Dawn, and Playground read best among the eight-stone division, and Fitzquex and Joyspear among those lower down. To reduce even these is a problem. In a final summing-up one is tempted to suggest that the two who are likely to perform most creditably are Richfield and Gold Dawn.
