MAGISTRATE'S COURT
Cases at the Magistrate's Court were dealt with yesterday .by Mr. M. Page, S.M. Henry Smith, a labourer, aged 40, was remanded to appear at Christchurch tomorrow on a charge of being £231 10s in arrears with a maintenance order. On tho application of the Collector o£ Customs, Mr. A. Paul, the Magistrate made an order directing the deportation of Lars Johan Anderson. Mr. Paul said that Anderson arrived in New Zealand on 3rd March, 1927, as. a member of the crew of the Tremeadow. When his ship was iv Wanganui he was arrested for a criminal orlence and was sentenced in Wellington to five years' hard labour. He had been released _by tho Prisons Board, and his deportation was asked for, as he was a prohibited immigrant. The New Zealand Shipping Company, agents for the Tremeadow, had made arrangements to take him back to England, where he was signed on.
