RETIRING OFFICERS

A meeting to farewell six Salvation Army officers who aio relinquishing their official positions was held at the Vivian Street Citadel last evening. Commissioner Cunningham presided. The retiring officers arc Lieutenant-Colonel and Mrs. Kirk, Lieutenant-Colonel and Mrs. Toomer, Mrs. Lieutenant-Colonel Guim, and Brigadier Elsie Boi. For the past thirty-six years. Liou-tonant-Colonol Kirk has been connected with the trade department of the Army in this country and in Australia. Since 1912 ho has been trade secretary for New Zealand. He has also managed the Army's bookroom in. Cuba street. Lieu-tenant-Colonel Toomer, who has had forty years' service in England, Australia, and New Zealand, has for a number of years "occupied the position of men's social'secretary, with the oversight of sixteen institutions. Mrs. LieutenantColonel Gunn, who is the widow of the late Colonel Guira, rendered valuable service as a field officer both in this country and in Australia. Brigadier Elsie Koi, who has devoted her life to the care of orphan children, opened the first children's homo in Wellington in 1903. 3?or many years past Brigadier Eoi has also superintended the women's social work, involving the oversight of eighteen institutions devoted to ths work of this branch of the Army's activities. • Short addresses wero delivered by each of. the retiring officers.
