It is understoou that Mr. Scullin may sco Mr. Lang in. an endeavour to provail on him to change his plan regarding default. In tho meantime Mr. Sculliu is reticent.

Despite Mr. Lang's declaration, the Commonwealth Government is expected to make some provisional arrangement to meet tho position and to preserve the good name of Australia. _ The Commonwealth will bo obliged to meet interest payments in London on Ist April, but legal opinion is that, immediately on doing so, the Commonwealth could institute- proceedings in the High Court to recover from the Stato the amount paid.
