WEEK-END WEATHER

A BETTER OUTLOOK

11l the northern and eastern portions of the North Island rain which fell last night vra's associated with a eyelone ■situated east of the Auckland Peninsula. There were scattered showers on the east coast of the South Island, but elsewhere fair to fine weather prevailed. Since last night, however, the northern eyelone has departed eastwards, and a rather intense anti-cyclone has been moving on to the Dominion. The centre is in the south, and, consequently, rather strong south to southeast winds iverc still blowing this morning in and north of Cook Strait. From there southwards, light tt> moderate Southerlics have given place to more variable winds. Scattered showers were still reported at 9 a.m. to-day along the east coast from Cook Strait and East Cape, but elsewhere a fairly general improvement was in evidence, although temperatures have continued to bo cool. The forecast is for moderate to strong but decreasing south to southeast winds in and north of Cook Strait; elsewhere variable winds, later tending to northerlics. At first, there are still likely to be some showers in the eastern districts of the North Island, but improving gradually; otherwise fair to. fine. Temperatures will be cold, with sonic night frosts inland. Guest towels, bridge scorers, cigarette lighters, uiul all kinds of thinsrs for Is ;it.
