MR. FORBES PRAISED
"ONE OF THE STRAIGHTEST"
HON. L. M. ISITT'S TRIBUTE
An eloquent tribute to the straightforwardness of the Prime Minister (the Bight Hon. G. W. .Forbes),- was paid in the Legislative Council yesterday by the Hon. L. M. Isitt, when replying to criticism by. the Hon. W. Earnshaw. "I do not think for one moment," said Mj. Tsitt, "that Mr. Earnshaw really believes that the Government ia out for the degeneration and tho ruin. of the working classes. -He knows just as well as I do that no matter how much ho may differ from the Prims Minister's opinions and his proposed legislation, we have in Mr. Forbes one of the straightest and the most honest men in New Zealand politics. He is the. very last man to pander to the rich and heap upon the shoulders of tho poor any burden that ought to be borne by the wealthy. I do not believe—and I have had "nad the privilege of his intimate friendship for the last 20 years— whether one thinks his policy right or wrong, that there is in New Zealand today a man who realises more deeply, or more seriously, than does Mr. Forbes, the tremendous weight of responsibility that rests on his shoulders; or who is more intensely anxious to solve the complex problem that now confronts him, and serve his country in this hour of need." .. . ■
