FREEZING INDUSTRY
THE WAGES ISSUE
WHAT THE UNION WANTS
(By Telegraph.—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. The Canterbury freezing companies' application for a reduction in wages by from 15 to 25 per cent, was heard by the Conciliation Council to-day. The union representatives opposed the reductions,'and asked for a large number of variations in the clauses, as well as an increase in wages of 5 per cent. After discussion the union representatives said that they would agree to the existing award provided the employers would give them a written assurance that a clause would bo included providing that the award would not be reviewed by the Arbitration Court under the coming legislation. The hearing is proceeding.
