DELHI, 25th March
Grave communal doling occurred at Cawnpore yesterday and to-day following the Lahore executions. Twenty persons were killed and a hundred and twenty injured; The rioters fired and looted shops in Cawnpore, and British troops were called out at -midnight, followed some hours later by auxiliary forces. Temples and mosques have been looted, and fourteen incendiary fires occupied the brigade's attention. Attacks were made upon the Currency Office, the Courts, and Telegraph Station. "
The trouble started when Moslems refused to participate in mourning for the executed men. Gangs of ruffians in both communities, taking advantage of the situation, created a reign of terror, indulging in burnings and lootings. Disturbances also occurred at Peshawar, where demonstrators wrecked a liquor shop.
