POINTS FROM LETTERS

"A.J.W." writes:'—"lt was reported the other day that Mr. Black, M.P., had been expelled from his party because he voted against the party measures. To my mind this raises a most important question, namely, should a member vote against his conscience and for his party ;or should he vote party against prin T jcjnles.. Perhaps, it. cggJdvbg jjut-another-

way: is a man put into Parliament to repßesent the voters or is he put into the position to maintain a certain party? I suggest that it is fully time that the electors of New Zealand sent men to Parliament to support what tliey honestly believed, not what the party wants. The big obstacle that faces New Zealand (and many other parts of the world) is that the party system is put first and the welfare of the people comes after." A correspondent ("60 Years Old") gives the following account of an aeroplane (light:—"On I thought I would have a fly in the air, so off to aero base, Lyall Bay, where several people, men and women, were having a trial flight. The head instructor strapped me in the front seat, with cap and goggles, and we started. It was a great experience to look down on Wellington from up above; yon will never know liow lovely Wellington is till you see it below you. On the ground you may see it in detail, but up there you get a wide, general view. I would advise anyone who has the 'blues' to take a flight over Wellington and see what has been done by the pioneers: it gives one a far more comprehensive idea."
