W.C.T.U. CONVENTION

RESOLUTIONS PASSED

(From Our O\% Correspondent.) NELSON, 25th March,

The Dominion Conference of the W.C.T.U., which ends to-day, passed the following resolutions: — '

'•That this convention urges the Government to make arrangements whereby a wife or mother of a man working on public relief works be paid some of his wages, instead of waiting till he sends it on, so as to eusure the wife and family being provided for."

"That the convention defines the scope of the work under the heading of 'good citizenship.' The answer was given that the department included all civic work, including Plunket Societies and Hospital Boards, association with Magistrates' Courts, etc.; all local body work, and all work that helps for the betterment of your town,"

"That the regulations against smoking in non-smoking carriages on the railways be more Btrictly enforced."

"That the ago for marriage for minors be raised to 16 years."

"That provision be made whereby a deserted wife may receive the family allowance without the signature of her husband being necessary."

"That in view of the importance of work among young people this convention would urge that at future conventions a much longer period of time be devoted to discussion and interchange of ideas of the L.T.L.-L.W.R. (or cradle roll) and V work."

"That to instruct young people in hygiene, trained nurses or women doctors be employed by the State to give a course of lessons in school sufficient to help and guide pupils as they grow older."

The following resolution was lost: —

"That the Dominion executive be allocated to the four centres: Dunedin, Christchureh, Wellington, . and Auckland, in turn, Dominion officers to be drawn from the rcntre where the executive would be placed; the executive to remain only three years in each place."

The following special resolutions were brought forward by Miss Henderson, corresponding secretary of the Union: "That we.re-affirm our demand for policewomen." "That the general public be excluded from domestic Courts when cases 'are being dealt with."
