ON TRENTHAM TRACK

LADY PAM'S ENGAGEMENTS

Heavy fog enshrouded Trentham this morning, and fast galloping was out of the question. Several horses who have Easter engagements to meet, however, were- worked on the plough or trial grass at a sound three-quarter pace. Lady Pain, who is to go to Ellerslic I for the Great Northern Oaks, and probably also for the St. Leger, cantered a round the reverse way on the plough, and then worked over another round at I a strong three-quarter pace. She has not suffered in the least from her hard race at Trentham, and will strip very fit at Easter. R. M'Tavish again rides her. Ephialtes, who was galloped on in his race the final day tit Trentham, is again working, his assignment, this morning being a round at a steady three-quarter pace. He was bandaged, but showed no sign of lameness. All going well, he will race at Tauhcrenikau. Most other horses who are to race at Easter were worked, but none went against the watch. All are in . good trim, and a couple of gallops next week will be ample to fit them, for the fray. W. Hawthorne intends to school Hymgreat' over the bigger fences shortly. Hymgroat has come on a lot lately, and he is tho cut to make a 'chaser. His jumping over tho hurdles at Awapuni was first-class, and thero is no .reason why he should not master the steeple country. He was owned by his trainer, not leased, prior to the Wellington Meeting, and was bought back, by Mr. W. B. Kemball, who had owned and raced him till he was a five-year-old. | Hawthorne also intends to jump Courageous and Pat's Boy during the winter, and they will be schooled over the hurdles after the Easter racing is finished. Courageous is the true type of stayer, and if he shows ability to fence ho should turn out a more than useful hurdle proposition. H. Pritchard left for Westport by | the Komata yesterday with Gold Sand, I Shootist, and Fallow, who are to do ' the Coast circuit. Invite, who could have raced in only ono event on the j circuit, was not taken. On the Komata were also White llinglet, Warfille, Full Crop, and Rich Harvest.
