MAN WITH 141 CONVICTIONS
"He lias appeared before the Court at ■Wellington and Auckland on at loast 141 occasions, mainly for drunkenness," said Senior-Sergeant Dempscy when Joseph Johnston appeared bofore Mr. E. Page, S.M., at the Magistrate's Court to-day on. a charge of :being found in a state of hoJploss drunkenness.
The accused was arrested on 19th March and was sent to gaol for medical treatment, continued the Senior-Ser-geant. The costs amounted to £2. "I think a trip to the Island would do me good," said the accused when asked by the Magistrate whether he had anything to say.
Mr. Pago: "Yes, I think it probably would."
Johnston was convicted and committed to Roto Roa Island for two years. ■
