GERMAN AMY JOHNSON
TURNS UP IN TIMBUCTOO
LANDING IN THE DESERT
(Received 26th March, 2 p.m.)
BERLIN, 25th March
Denizens ot! the bazaars of Timbuetoo were startled by the apparition of a sunburned young woman, in a travelstained shirt and shorts, staggering alone from the desert in a state of collapse. She was Elli Beinhorn, Germany's Amy Johnson, who started-in January to fly to West Africa in easy stages. Oil leaking compelled a forced landing 30 miles from Timbuetoo, necessitating a four-days' tramp over sandy wastes to safety.
