MINOR RISING IN MADRID
FATAL CLASH WITH POLICE

MADRID, 25th March
The deadlincss of a minor revolution incited by medical students can be gauged from the fact that 4000 shots were fired and oue student and one Civil Guard killed and Captain Canas, a police sergeant, and thirteen students were wounded.
The students, hoisting posters and red Hags, seized the streets near the University, stoned trams, and stopped traffic, and, amid cheers from workmen, drove off the police. The student mot his death at the hands of a policeman, who fired twice at his prostrate body after knocking him down for brandishing a,revolver. His comrades immediately hoisted the Black Flag and carlied the wounded to the operating theatre, where doctors attending them were disturbed by police riHe fire and fled in a frenzy into the streets, clearing the way by loosing ofi revolvers. Three squadrons of Civil Guards, charging through volleys of brfeks and slates, restored order. They arrested a film operator who was enthusiastically recording the scenes, and confiscated the film.
