INSURANCE MURDER
SENSATIONAL TRIAL
DEATH SENTENCE FOR TWO
(Received 26th March, 2.45 p.m.) BERLIN, 25th March. The sensational insurance murder trial ended in the death sentence for Fritz Saffrun and his clerk Kipnich, and five years hard labour for Elia Augustiu. The Public Prosecutor considered that Kipnich actually fired the shot, but the others were accessories and equally guilty. There was a dramatic scene earlier when the skull of the victim was shown the accused. The men did not reveal emotion, but Augustin declined to look at it. The trial was characterised by remarkable outbursts of emotion when the speeches concluded. Saffran tearfully said: "I deeply regret the deed, and wish to atone for it." Angustin sajd: "I did everything for love of Saffran: He isn't a bad man." Kipnich said: "I am sorry. I would like to show once more I am a decent man." Augustin jumped up and called out: "But you are a, murderer." Kipiiich appeared confused, and then said:< "God will reveal the murderer. Perhaps you will Jiavc the victim on your conscience."
