MELROSE AFFAIRS

The annual meeting o£ the Melrosei Ratepayers' and Electors' Association was held recently, Mr. C. B. Martin presiding over a fair attendance of members.

Members expressed their sympathy witii Mrs. Linburgh, Mr. F. C. Zantuck, and Mrs. A. F. Tonks. Special mention wag made of the services that the late Mr. A* F. Tonks had'rendered to the association. The secretary presented the annual rei port. Rodrigo road, Sutherland road* Sutherland crescent, and Antico street were to receive attention in the framing of the next year's estimates. The Fire Board had promised to give attention to fire alarms. The sum of £6 had beea raised toward the Porirua Hospital Radio* Fund.. The transport problem still exercised the minds of the members, and while) every effort had been made to secure improvement, not much had been achieved. Thanks were expressed to the Press and to Mr. E. H. Brooker (hon. solicitor). The treasurer's statement showed a balance in hand of £92 7s sd. The state o_ the finances was favourably commented on, but attention was drawn to the necessity of providing for a sinking fund in order to help liquidate the mortgage oa the hall property. , „, ' ■ For the ensuing year Mr. J. Sharp was elected vice-president; Mr. C. Cr. Palmer,secretary; Mr. F. W. Boyd, treasurer, ! Mesdames Sharp and Zantuck and Messrs. Zantuck, Plank, and Janes were elected to the committee. Other elections were;! Press reporter, Mr. C. G. Palmer; auditors, Messrs. Bradley and Williamson;: hon. solicitor, Mr. E. H. Brooker. It was decided to place on record appreciation, of the services that Mr. F. W. Boyd had, so willingly given to the interests of the association over a number of years. The state of Caprera street was discussed, and it was decided, to write th<j Works Committeo requesting the repais* ing of the road arid footpath.
