MAGISTRATE'S COURT
Cases at the Magistrate's Court were dealt with to-day by Mr. E. Page, S.M. Bernard Benjamin Whitburn, a labourer, aged 39, was fined 10s, in. default three days' imprisonment, toy using obscene language. William Ernest Clapham, a labourer, aged 03, was remanded until Ist April on a charge of stealing £205 0s Id from his employers, Messrs. Wilson, Canham, and Co., between 7th October, 1927, and 20th January, 1930. Bail was fixed at £100, with one surety of £100. Albert Charles Brown appeared on a charge of stealing a pie-melon valued at 2s lOd. When the Magistrate was informed that the melon had been recovered he entered a conviction and discharged the accused. Described by Senior-Sergeant Dempsey as a heavy drinker since 1923, and a3 addicted to methylated spirits, Daniel Yore, who appeared on a charge of being found in a state of helpless drunkenness, was convicted and ordered to pay medical expenses, £2.
