POLITICAL PARTIES
CO-OPERATION NEEDED
At a committee meeting of the New Zealand Political Association, the president (Mr. Edwin 'Salmond) presiding, held on Friday, the following resolutions were unanimously passed:— That this association expresses its satisfaction with the attitude adopted by the Beforin Party, in supporting the Government in its endeavour to improve the existing economic conditions. That in reaffirming its previous resolutions in support {of fusion, this association, for the common good of the country, strongly urges the United and Reform Parties to co-oper-ate, and thereby secure from the ranks of each party the services of men best fitted to occupy Ministerial positions. Speaking to the motions, members of, the committee referred to the resolutions passed by the association on 19th December last, wherein its views were expressed as follows:— (a) That on general principles no insurmountable 'difficulties exist between the United and Reform Parties. (b) That to obtain a clear majority at next General Election.it is .essential that either of the two, parties secures, approximately fifteen additional seats, tho attainment of which is highly improbable. (c) That owing to triangular contests at last General Election a number of seats, was won by Labour candidates! • Supporting the resolutions, members pointed out that the association was not commenting on tho matter in which the Government proposed to bring.about financial stability, but was! giving expression to the desire of the' public- that .the Reform and United Parties should combine and so ensure the necessary strength to carry out a policy based on sound, economic prinsiples. ,
