GIRL GUIDE FETE

SUCCESSFUL FUNCTION

A very successful garden party was held on Saturday afternoon in the grounds of Mrs. T.. Young's home, in Grant road. The fete had been organised by the Wellington Division of the Girl Guides, and the beautiful garden S slopes and lawns made a delightful setting for the entertainment which they provided. Her Excellency Lady Bledisloe,.who was welcomed by Mrs. M. Lady BadenPowell had told Her Excellency how pleased she had been with. the Girl Guides of the Dominion. Her Excellency wore an ensemble of maize-colour-ed crepo do chine, with a collar of soft fur. Her felt hat of the same shade was folded off the forehead and dipped at one side. She also wore tho gold and silver sash, insignia of the Dominion President. She was presented with a bouquet of mauve and pink flowers by Betty Olphert. Her Excellency was accompanied by Mrs. Bathurst, who wore a smoke-grey tailored costume and a wide blue felt hat. Stalls were arranged in various shady parts of the garden, and afternoon tea was served on small tables on the tennis lawn. A display of Guide games and folk dances was given, and was much appreciated by the visitors. Her Excellency visited all the stalls. The side-shows and ice-cream stall did an excellent trade, among the girls. Those in charge of the stalls were: Cakes, Mrs. A. Fairhall; sweets, Mrs. G. A. King; produce, Hutt Valley Division; fancy stall, Hutt Valley Rangers; icecreams, Mrs. Upton; "Aunt Sally," Wellington East (Miss Matheson); dip, St. Paul's Rangers; coconut shy, Mrs. Middleton; afternoon tea, Mrs. Affleck. Coates (provincial President), who wore a squirrel grey ensemble and powder blue hat; Mrs. Sprott, Mrs. Wallis, Mrs. W. Field, Mrs. E. G. Reid, Mrs. H. Vogel, Mrs. H. Hall, Lady-Luke, Mrs.. S.
