FRILLED PETTICOATS
PARIS MANNEQUIN SHOW
White frilled petticoats under even-1 ing dresses, similar to those seen in Mr. 0. B. Coehran's "1931 Revue/ have made their appearance in Paris (states a writer in the "Daily Mail"). The flounced white lace petticoat, mounted on a net foundation and frothing round the ankles beneath a wideskirted black evening gown, created an appropriate flutter at an important "soiree".-at a .famous" house in the Champs-Elysees. Even . the, mannequin who wore it—an ultra-modern young woman with an elaborately-waved Eton crop—had' an expression of self-con-scious amusement. This- grandmotherly petticoat demanded more daring of the wearer;'than. the..new waist.-deep square decoll.etage, of which a number were shown. ' ' .-. ' ■'.' ' . . ■■;.... Petticoat influence is .only just beginning, .to be felt in".Paris.". .At this showing, for instance, a white lace evening gown had as: foundation wide pyjamas composed cf horizontal stripes of white crepe and silver1 tissue. ."Several other lace.dresses had apparently no petticoats of any kind. Sometimes a gown had a transparent hem to show .the ankles ~.~~.::...'. '~... ''.. "'.'..." ". Ink-blue- was a ■ striking - new colour for evening and day gowns, and fox was dyed to match it. Some of the simplest day outfits seemed to have been inspired by the uniform of a. ship's stoward. Trimly moulded and. very brief white coats of men's linen shirting or silk pique wcrp -combined to very chic effect with skirts or dresses of black, usually, wool georgette. Bold diagonal stripes—bluo an ; d scarlet, for instance—on a crepe de chiuo will be a difficult problem for women (if any) who have given up slimming. Day outfits were accom.pnni.ed by froggy suede gloves, usually white, black, or brown, with wide gauntlets held by three large buttons.
