AUSTRALIA SELLS WOOL
Figures issued by the National Council of Wool Selling Brokers show that from -Ist July to the end of February this year, 1,833,993 bales of wool were sold on the principal Australian markets, which realised £19,493,738, an average of '£30 12s 7d per bale, or S.3d per lb, greasy and scoured. The sales to the date mentioned show an increase of 344,979 bales compared ■with twelve months previously, but the amount realised displays a decrease of £1,026,655. Thp wool sold during the same period of the preceding season realised an average of £13 15s 8d per bale, or 10.8 d per lb. Compared with two years previously, the money received from the wool sold during |he eight months shows a decline of £23,332.073; at that time the average price per lb was 17d. The futlity is evident of Australian Governments endeavouring to maintain expenses in view of that extraordinary drop "in revenue from the nations staple industry. At the end of February, only 416,-111 bales we're in Australian stores awaiting sale, compared "with 873,292 bales at the same date a year before.
