SWIMMING CARNIVAL
(From Our Own Correspondent.) NELSON, 20th. March. About 500 spectators attended the Nelsou Swimming Club carnival in the Municipal Baths. All the events were well contested, some very close finishes "resulting. N. Boultou, ex-New Zealand brcaststroke champion, was narrowlybeaten by S. Sutherland, who had the benefit of 2sec start, in the '06 2-3 yds breaststroke. A splendid finish in./ the 200 yards handicap saw W. Gray, late of Napier, uurrowly win from 11. An application to the City Council last evening for permission lo open a miniature golf course on Good Friday was given scant consideration, councillors' .unanimously agreeing not to grant the request. The resolution also indicated that similar rcqucst.s would bo dealt with in the same wny.
