This morning an. early start was made with, the second of the B series matches. The B series matches are incorporated in ihe-programme to enable riflemen to shoot * ovei'i al Belt ranges prior to the start of ■: the actual Belt matches themselves. They ares King and Henry, 300 yards, 500 yards, 600 yards; Cresswell, 800 yards; Witcombe . and Caldwell,'9oo yards. _ This year, owing to, tile- economic conditions, the Cresswell -and Witcombe matches are combined, and only one prize-is being isfeued. The B .. s.eries matches embrace the Imperial Ag- :■ gregato also. : A START ON THE BELT. 2Jo time is being lost this year with the conduct of the matches, and, with the B series completed this morning, it was hoped to make a start with the championship matches this'afternoon. The . championship is, naturaly, the most im- '. porfant aspect of the meeting, and from I to-day performances- will be closely scrur tinised. . There are six - championship. : matches (one less than last year) as fol- , lows: Marlborough, 300 yards; Wellington, •500' yards and 600 yards; Canterbury,. COO '■• yards; Taranaki, 800 yards; Hawkes Bay, • 900 yards; and Otago 300 yards and 900 ■ yards.. Another alteration in this year's ' programme is that the Taranaki 'and Hawkes Bay matches are being amalgamated, only one list being issued. It is anticipated that two matches will be disposed of to-day—the Marl borough and the Wellington.
