BRAKE TROUBLE
When brakes grab it does not always mean that the lining is at fault or that the brakes are not equalised. A . surprising number of causes may encourage this sort of trouble." Sometimes the brake shoes bind against the :dust shields. This.is likely to : be the case if the.car has been roughly handled. Broken return springs may also account for grabbing. In some • systems if th'e'toe-, clearance of the shoes ■is less than the heel trouble, will follow. . Still- anothor cause-of. grabbing is the drum itself,- which .may.-.'be. out .of -round. , In this condition the drum is:- sflid; to ;be eccentric, a term which xlearjy-.' describes; the resulting brake action. Rusty brake connections may cause mechanical brakes to grab and in the case -.of the hydraulic type there is •the possibility of the cup in the master cylinder swelling and closing the compensating port. •■ .■■ ■ ■■•■■ ,
