A Press Association telegram advises that Mr. A. M. Seaman, a well-knowu accountant, has been elected president of the Auckland Chamber of Comincrca in succession to Mr. Malcolm Stewart. Mr. John E. Hunt, president, New, Zealand Coach and Motor Body; Builders' Industrial Association of Employers, left last, night for Auckland to represent the association at a sitting of the Arbitration Court in Auckland. A private cable message states that the death occurred in Melbourne yesterday of Mr. H. Courtney Dix, . a director of Gordon and Goteh (Asia.), Limited. The late Mr. Dix joined the company some forty years ago in Melbourne; for sopie years he was accountant at the head-office, and later was appointed a director, which position he occupied at the time of his death. About thirty years ago the late Mr. Dix married Miss Goteh, a daughter of the founder of the firm. Mr. S. Fisher, Deputy-Mayor of Eastbourne, took his seat as a member of tho Wellington Free Ambulance Board to-day. Mr. Fisher will represent Eastbourne during1 the absence from New; Zealand of the Mayor, Mr. H, M» Jones. \ The death is announced from Nelson, by the Press Association of Mr. G. W. Hazletpn, who retired from the position, of Chief Postmaster at Nelson.about A year ago after forty years' service.. Ho was formerly stationed at various places, including Ashburton, Napiev, Thames, Feilding, and "Wanganui. H» leaves a widow and one son. Burns, general manager of the Christchtfrch Press Company, was to-day elected chairman of ths Board of Directors of the United Press Association of New Zealand , for tho ensuing year, states a Press Association, telegram from Botorua. Mr. Burns was for seventeen years on the staff of the Press Association in Wellington, and at Cable Bay, Nelson, having joined as a cadet. He left tho association's service to.take up a position as subeditor with the Christchurch "Press," from which he rose, to the managerial chair.' A graceful compliment was paid to Mr. W. H. Ataek, former manager of the United Press Association, at the annual meeting of the association held to-day, states a Press Association message from Botorua. The chairman, Mr. E. Abbey Jones, said ho thought it fitting that Mr. Atack should read th» minutes of the last meeting as he had done for 45 years, and thus bring his long association to a formal end. The suggestion was cordially endorsed, and Mr. Atack acceded. The minutes were read and confirmed, ' and Mr. Atack, later, was presented with a substantial chequo as a tribute to his. outstanding ability and fidelity.
