ANNUAL CONFERENCE

(By Telcraph.—Press Association.) GREYMOUTH, This Day. The twenty-ninth annual convention of tho Now Zealand Master Bakers' and Pastry Cooks' Association opened hero yesterday. At a civic reception speeches of welcome were made by the '\Tayor, Mr. J. W. Grecnslado, Mr. J. O'Brien, M.P., and Mr. J. M'Lean, eliiiirman of the Chamlier of Commerce. The president, Mr. B. H. Montgomery, suggested that the incoming pxecutive should watch the position in linvv-kes-Bay, and later approve a scheme enabling tho whole trade to help their stricken fellow-tradesmen. Tho association, he added, owed a debt to the Department of Industrial Research and the Wheat Research Institute. . The report suggosted that the Napier, Manawatu, and Taranaki Associations be To-formed. The need of a universal combination of the trade was urged, and the immediate adoption of carters' agreement forms was recommended. The balance-sheet showed a substantial credit. It was decided to hold the next conference at Palmerston North. The election of officers resulted:— President, Mr. H. U. Bur Son (Auckland); vice-presidents, Messrs. T. W. Smith (Stratford) and A. Laurenson (Dunedin) (re-elected); committee, Messrs. J. M'Gregor, G. K. Mathieson, Leu Burton, C. Cowan, C. Buchanan (re-elected) and R. H. Montgomery; auditor, Mr. W. A. Lee (re-elected). The president presented gold medallions to the following past presidents:— Messrs. C. E. Boon (1924-25), J. T. Norton (1925-26), H. Harker (1929-30), and R. H. Montgomery (1930-31). Mr. H. E. West, of the Now Zealand Wheat Research Institute, gave useful information regarding experiments conducted by the institute with skim, milk powder.

The delegates aro making a trip to Westport to-day, via tho Coast road. Tho confci'ence resumes on Thursday.
