ON TRENTHAM TRACK
SEVERAL FAST GALLOPS
HISTORIC NOT HIS OLD SELF
Tlio weather was fine for gallops at Trentliam this morning, and the outside of the trial grass, which was usedfor fast work, was in good order. The plough was heavy, and was not used except for pace work. Moab Queen finished more strongly than Invite at the end of half a mile on the two-yoar-old track in 49 3-ssee. This was one of the best gallops Moab Queen has yet executed, for she wa3 doing her work attractively at the close. Taura Lad, who has just returned from a spell, did a round of pace work. Normandy went twice round on the plough, and Hunting Call strode: over half a mile at\a good half-pace. Habit was a length ahead of her Etablemate Arikinui at the end of half a mile, the last three furlongs taking 39sec. ' Movietone, who has recently returned to work after a three months' spell, and Trader Horn cantered and trotted twice round on the plough. Joie de Val, Master of Arts, and Buellona were associated over half a mile, the first-named finishing strongly to beat Master of Arts narrowly in 49 4-ssec, with Duellona tailed off. Joie de Val has been galloping in goodstyle for some time, but she has so far Been unable to break her maiden status. Caught, Granado, and Oratorian were together all the way in a half-mile sprint in 52sec, but none waa after figures. Zephyrus was going away from. Historic at the end of seven furlongs in lmin 35sec, the last half-mile being done in 52 3-ssee. Historic did not move at all freely, but on returning to the centre he showed no sign of lameness. However, he is much below his real form at present. Cimabue, who has been kept out of action for some time owing to the development of a splint, sprinted six furlongs in lmin 19sec, the last half-mile taking 53sec. He will probably make his reappearance at the Wellington Meeting. "' . Concentrate and Gesture, who have returned from Taranaki; were ■■ not worked. They are to go down to Christehurch on Thursday evening, and will run at the Canterbury Meeting on Saturday. Their racing last week has improved them. White Doe finished lengths clear of Painting at the end of five furlongs in lmin 3 3-ssec, the last half-mile occupying 50sec. White Doe is to make the trip to Blenheim, and Goodman may take the other members of his team, as well in preference to going to Woodvillo. ... Staghunter, who is to race at Eiccarton on Saturday, was responsible for an attractive effort when he thoroughly trounced Lady Rene over five furlongs in lmin 2 2-sscc, the last halfmile being done in 49 4-ssec. E. M'Tavish will probably ride him. Dainty Ways, hopped away from tho six-furlong' peg a couplo of lengths in front of Courtliko, and, although the latter attempted to close the gap, she fell back again in the straight to finish a good two lengths behind her 'companion. The time for the full distance was lmin 17 4-ssec, and for the final half-mile 51 3-ssec. Dolomite, alone, went seven furlongs in the good time of lmin SOsec, coming home the last half-mile in 52sec. Dolomite has been sold, but possession is not to be taken till after the Marlborough Meeting. ■ >•■■■•'-■,,' Lavington was just in front of Martian Chief and Flower at the-close of a half-mile sprint in 49 3-ssec. ■ Lavington may go to Woodville, but Martial Chief will probably accompany Dolomite to Blenheim. . Ephialtes, having his first trial since the Wellington Meeting, sprinted three furlongs steadily in 39sec. Eothen and Marjoram went half a mile together in 49 3-sse\|C. Eothen/ who appears to have benefited from his short let-up, will race next at Blenheim. The three-year-old filly by Thomond from Little Push was too good for The Fool and a three-year-old gelding by Koyal Shot from La Eeve over three furlongs, but neither of the last-named pair had galloped previously. The schooling of Money Mint and Arrowzone was carried a stage further yesterday morning, and each-made a more promising showing. Money Mint particularly impressed as likely to duvolop into a fair sort of jumper; G. Jones went South last evening with Lady Pam, Spearlad, Cape Gold, Maritime, and Pat's Boy. They will race at Eiccarton on Saturday. W. Hawthorne arrived from Awapuni yesterday and took over his now quarters at "Coalition Lodge." The members of his team were exercised after breakfast.
