OUSTRIC BANK SCANDAL
ABUSE OF POSITION
PARIS, 14th February,
The Oustrie Bank Investigation Committee recommended the arraignment of M. Peret, ex-Minister of Finance, .and M. Rene Besnard, ex-Ambassador at Home, before the Senate on charges of abusing their official positions in order to secure the introduction of Sniaviscosa (the Italian artificial silk, combine) into France in the . interests of the Oustrie group.
The Oustrie scandal centres on the arrest of M. Albert Oustrie in November, on charges of fraud involving inoro than £10,000,000. A recent sequel to the investigations was the arrest iv Italy of Conimendatore Biccardo Gua'lino, an international financier, and one of Italy's biggest business men, who was found guilty of damaging Italy's finances, and banished. Gualino pioneered the artificial silk industry. Ho led the life of "a grand seigneur," had a magnificent picture gallery, and owned a Moorish castle on the Riviera, and stud racehorses, purchasing famous thoroughbreds in England. His connection with the Oustrie affair was revealed (luring the Paris inquiry. M. Perot was a member of M. Tardieu's Cabinet, the resignation of which was a sequel to the Oustrie failure.
