PETONE GAS BOARD

A meeting ol the Petone and Lower Hutt Gas Lighting Board was held last evening. There were present the chairman (Mr. W. G. Lodder) and Messrs E. Hogg, C. P. Brockelbank, P. Iruscott, W. G. Meldrum, and S. Clendon. The works manager (Mr. O. bhaw) reported that for the month G59 tons 17cwt of coal was carbonised, and 9,822,000 cubic feet o£ gas manufactured, with an average make of 14.580 cubic feet of gas per ton of coal. The increased manufacture of gas over January, 1930, was 1,285,000 cubic feet. The estimate of coal in stock on Ist February was 1094 tons lOewt 3qr. During the month 108 tons 3cwt 2qr of coke and 13,922 gallons o£ tar were sold. The&inspeetor (Mr. O. Silbury) reported that during the month 13 new services, 18 cookers, 5 coppers, 5 caliphonts, 2 Hottentots, 1 hotplate, and 24 new meters were installed. Fifty meters were changed and 32 meters repaired at the worked. During the month the supply at Belmont caused trouble, but the. fault had been remedied. In this work it was necessary to deal with tbe main crossing the old bridge by the lielmont railway station, and the road hud to bo opened on both sides of the bridge. The trouble was partly caused in this locality by the subsidence which had taken place in the supports of tlio roadway.
