AUSTRALIAN INVITATION
An invitation for New Zealand teams to participate in the Australian bowling carnival in August was received at last evening's meeting of the Wellington Bowling Centre. It was decided to circularise the clubs for entries. The treasurer reported that the balance- at the bank on 12th December was £81 9s Id. Tournament entry feos amounted to £108, and accounts had been paid amounting to £44 ss, leaving a balance of £145 4s Id. There would bo £31 10s entry fees from the champion of champions matches. After accounts had been passed for payment, there would bo a net b&lanco of £.154. A letter - was received from the Christehureh Centre stating that it expected to send six or seven strong rinks to compete for the Barnett Tiki about the beginning of March. A subcommittee has already been set up by the local centre to make tho necessary arrangements for the visit. The Manawatu Centre invited a visit from Wellington, but it was not considered possible to accept it in the meantime. An effort is to be made, however, to send teams up to the Easter tournament. A Manawatu party is to visit Wellington in March. Finality in the matter of a visit to Marlborough during the week-end, 20th to 22nd February, was postponed until next Monday. The champion of champions games will be played as follows:—18th February: Singles at Victoria; 25th February, Pairs at Thorndon; 4th March: Rinks at Wellington. The draw is as follows:— Singles.—First round: Hutt v. Wellington; Karori v. Petone. Second round: Winners of first two games; Kelburn v. Eastbourne; Central v. Victoria; Hataitai v. Newtown; Khandallah v. Woburn; Johnsonville- v. '■Lyall Bay; Upper Hutt v. Seatoun; Thorndon v. Island Bay. Pairs. —First round: Thorndon v. Island Bay; Hataitai v. Upper Hutt. Second round: Winners of first two games; Victoria v. Karori; Woburn v. Ivelburn; Hutt v. Seatoun; Lyall Bay ■v. Khandallah; Newtown v. Potone; Central v. Wellington; Eastbourne v. Johnsonville. Rinks.—First round: Khandallah v. Johnsonville; Central v. Woburu. Second round: Winners of first two games; Wellington v. Hutt; Newtown v. Petone; Thorndon v. Victoria; Lyall Bay v. Seatoun; Karori v. Island Bay; Eastbourne v. Kelburn; Hataitai v. Upper Hutt. In each case the first four mentioned are in tho first, round, which reduces the number to 16, and so gives a straight play-out to the finish, eight, four, two, and final. The winner of No. 1 plays winner of the No. 2, and the others in the order given. The Hataitai Club is the holder of the Edwin Feathers, and Johnsonville will play the next challenge. Woburn holds the Hill Pins, and Kelburn plays the next challenge.
