EVANS BAY RACES

KEELERS AND CENTREBOARDERS

Two yacht races were held by the Evans Bay Yacht and Motor-boat Club on Saturday afternoon. A keelers' race for th« Marangi Challenge Cup started shortly before 3 o'clock, and a batch of centre* boarders crossed the starting line at 3.15 p.m. in a race for the Patons Cup.

The keelers, which were started unaer the Mark Foy system, all got a good start with the exception of the scratch boat Marangi, which carried, away a staysail just as the starter's flag dropped.. All the boats started with well reefed sails, but they shook before they reached the Coromandel Buoy. The Shamrock rounded the buoy first, and was followed hf the Romp, Clutha, Nanette, and Galatea. At the Somes Island buoy the Komp waf first round, with the Shamrock, NanettuClutha, and Gtaktea folio* ing. The Rozcj crossed the finishing line one and a half minutes before the Nanette, which was followed closely ;by: the Shamrock.

The Damfino, with a 12min, handicap, finished first, "with the Violet arid Wellesley 11. second and third respectively. The'lndolence had the misfortune to capsize before the start. The Betty, starting from. scratch, took the lead on the run across from the Power Station, arid held ,her position' well. A good contest ensued between1 her,and the Clyde.
