THE AUTOCARRIER
CHANNEL MOTOR FERRY
'BRITISH RAILWAY ENTERPRISE
(British"Official Wireless.) BUGBY, 19th January. A new steamer to carry passengers and motor-cars across the Channel by the Folkestone-Boulogne and Dover-Calais route,is being built for the Southern Railway. It is called the autocarrier, and will accommodate 35 cars as well as 120 passengers and crew. The autocarrier is being constructed by Messrs. Henderson, Ltd., Glasgow, and will cost nearly £50^000. '• The Southern Railway is also building 30 new engines and much other roiling stock.. It is extending the electrification of the system, rebuilding several stations, and spending during the year a further £1,300,000 on the Southampton Docks extension scheme.
