LOBENGOLA'S TREASURE
An expedition, led by Mr. Lloyds Ellis, a business man' of Johannesburg (South Africa) has just returned from the search for the lost reasure of King Lobcngula. The trcasuro wtas^be,lieved to have been hidden m the bush somewhere east of Bulawayo shortly before the Matabelc King fled before Jameson's forces. It consisted of ivory, cold, and diamonds, valued approximately at £2,000,000. After concealing the treasure, Lobengula was said to have ordered his Matabele digging party to be assegaied while they slept lest they should divulge tho sfeeret of the cache. This order was carried out in the night by four old headmen. Soon after Lobengula himself fled before Jameson, and died near the Zambesi. The treasure was regarded as sacrosanct by the Indunas, only one of whom survives to-day (says the London "Observor")- Mr. Lloyds Ellis discovered tho kraal of this survivor, but found him semi-imbecile and unable to answer, questions intelligibly. However, ho secured important additional evidence, and ho now proposes to resume his search towards the end of the year.
