WAIPUKURAU RACES
A GLANCE OVER THE CARD
Fields for most events at the Waipukurau Jockey Club's Summer Meeting on Boxing Day are well up to the average of recent years, and good racing should be the result. Hawkes Bay supplies most of the acceptors, but there are a few horses from further afield, notably from Ricearton, Awapuni, and Trentham. The principal race is the AMALGAMATION HANDICAP, of 200 soys; ono milo and a quarter. stlb stlb Admiral Drake 9 0 Acmil 7 5 Imateagirl ~ S (! Tahoma 7 n Queen's Choice S I) Te Awha ... 7 2 Mountain Heath 7 9 Outstanding performer in the Amalgamation Handicap is Admiral Drake, one of the unluckiest horses racing at, the New Zealand Cup Meeting, and he is likely to be a good favourite here. His most dangerous rivals read to be Imateagirl and the improved Acmil, but Tahoma has also been running consistently of late and it will not surprise if he is responsible for a useful effort. Perhaps the best will be Admiral Drake and Acmil. The main sprint is the OPEN FLYING HANDICAP, of 175 soys; six furlongs. . stlb stlb Admiral Drake 9 0 Dobbin 7 10 Habit S 12 Lord Thomond 7 10 Maul ....... 8 3 Taranto ..... 7 9 Queen's Choice 8 1 Tahoma .... 7 9 Chopin 7 10 Admiral Drake is an acceptor in the Open Plying Handicap, but it is more likely that the main handicap will be his mission. Habit raced consistently at Eiecarton, and as she is well at present she may be one of the hardest in the race to beat. Principal opposition for her will probably come from Taranto and the southerner, Lord Thomond, but Chopin is also a possibility if started here. Good performances should be registered by Taranto and Habit. In the other races, horses in form and who should race well are as follows:— Maiden Race: Laconic and Mon Roi. Juvenile Handicap: Souchong and Granpat. Taihoa Hack Handicap: Painkiller and Mahora. Porangahau Hack Handicap: Kahikatoa and Pewa. Braeburn Handicap: Chopin and Zippor. Lake Hack Handicap: Painkiller and Golden Shadow.
