ON AUCKLAND TRACKS
SOUTHERN HORSES ARRIVING GOOD GALLOP BY COEIXAX
(By Telegraph.) (Special to "The Evening Post.") * AUCKLAND, ISth December. Southern horses engaged, at the Auckland racing carnival' are. now arriving daily, and io-day brought a further batch, .when A. arrived with Nightniarch and True Shaft, G~. Jones with Lady Tain, Sir Limond, Maritime, and Cape Gold, and X. Lloyd with Gay Crest aiid Royal Baby. There will be more arrivals to-morrow morning, Saturday, and Sunday, and most of the:visitors will be here by Monday, after' which training ] operations on ' the tracks at, EllerElie should become particularly interesting. One oi the best gallop? at Ellerslie today was executed by Corinax .(M'Tavish), who had previously done a steady round j on the tan, and Cynthia' -Ni (Fergus). They were sent seven furlongs, and after running the first three1 in' 38 2-ssec, completed the distance in Imin 31 2-ssec. Corinax was going, on very strongly at the finish, where he could "have gone away from his companion. . Every gallop is improving Corinax, who may soon strike form again. Tetrachate was not unduly bustled to run four furlongs' in 53 l-ssec. Tetrachnte is in good heart; and should perform creditably in the hack' class at the coming meeting. However,, he is well up in ihe weights,, and may find the task of winning very difficult. ' '■ ' ' : After the breakfast interval Catoma (Fergus) was "stepped along over seven furlongs, and he pleased by. registering Imin 31 4-ssec. One furlong occupied 12 3-ssec, two 24 4-ssec, three SSsec, four '50 2-ssec, and the'last three 41 2-ssec. Catoma worked well, and it was a sound effort for a horse who went alone.
Gold Money strode along for about five furlongs without being at top at any stage. Gold Money has had a comparatively easy time lately, tint is-carrying a bright appearance and may come to hand again quickly. . . ■ , Foot Rule (M'Tavish) was not asked for her best to run six furlongs in Imin 21 3-ssec. She moved along smoothly all the way, running the. first furlong in 14 2-ssec, two in 27 3-ssec, three in 40 3-ssec, and the last three in 41sec. Sir Mond (Canrmick), easily beat SubEditor (light boy) over seven furlongs in Imin 34 l-ssec. They kept well together for the first six furlongs, and Sir Mond then drew out to finish clear. Sir Mond looks improved for his recent racing. Royal Tea (Parsons) hit out in good style for five furlongs in Imin ssec. The Railway Handicap candidate is bright and well, and has been infusing plenty of da«h into his latest gallops. Eager Rose (li. Manson) ran a mile without any great effort-in Imin 48sec, running the first half in 53sec and the second half. in 55sec. She showed her usual, .disposition to loaf at the finish, where she was travelling very comfortably. ■: The members of J. JH. Jefferd's team,' Star Stranger, - Cylinder, Love Song, and ' Hunting Day, were out working steadily, Star Stranger and Cylinder doing pacework on the sand, and the other pair trotting in the middle. They all look well, although Cylinder was a trifle stiff after working. The trouble is due- to his kidneys, and should quickly disappear with . treatment ', . -AT TAKANINI. "Although to-day was .a fairly quiet morning at Takanini,a few horses worked fast, the inside grass being in splendid order. White wiugs, with a good weight up, was allowed to. stride along at three-quar-ter pace over a few furlongs'. The mare, who does not do a great deal of galloping, is1 looking "particularly. well, and is likely to make -a- showing in the, sprint events at Ullerslie:, ■■■ '■ ■■ ■' : '"■ ''■ Brazanna (Forsyth) was just in front o£ Bronze Eagle (Gray), but both were doing it very well at the end of half a mile. in 49 4-ssec. ; These juveniles have done well recently. They are to make 1 their debut at Ellerslie, and Bronze Eagle has worked well enough to' suggest that he might be dangerous the first time out. High Comedy and Speedfast were not fully extended to run five furlongs in lniin Bsec. thelast three in 39sec. High Comedy "is a very big youngster who may make a showing in the minor classes before '.•°Rosshire (Goldfinch) was a neck in front of Vandyke (Gray) at the end of six furlongs in Imin 16 4-ssec. The first furlong took 12 .2-3sec,~ two furlongs 25sec, and three 37 l-ssec. . Vandyke led his mate into the straight, when Rosslnre finished particularly well to hold'a slight advantage at the close. ■ Rosshire has 'only to repeat his track work •to .win a race, and Vandyke is ion the-up grade. He has come on since racing at Waipa, and with Another sprint or two will be just about •right. .-.-•• . Sargon worked- steadily .over several circuits on the plough. . He appears to have lost.a lot of his muscular soreness, but he is still under grave suspicion with one of his fqreiegs,: and the outcome of his next gallop is awaited with interest.
