WOMEN SMOKERS
A DOCTOR'S VIEWS
(From "The Post's" Representative.) LONDON, 14th November. Dr. E. It. Griflin, who was with the E.A.M.C. during the war, gave a lecture on "Should Women Smoke" to the London College of Physiology. "When a woman does smoke she smokes fast and furious," he said. "Women aro rather prone to excess, and once they take up smoking they aro at it night and day. They seem to enjoy lighting one cigarette from another. One of the reasons why women smoke is because it gives them something to do with their hands, and it helps them to cover nervousness. " I was also told that some women smoke because they like to copy men. Women smokers largely affect cigarette-hold-ers, and this is one of the most dangerous methods of smoking. They convey the injurious qualities of tobacco in larger quantities to the mouth." There could be no doubt that cancer of the lip was largely due to smoking. "Tobacco blindness, which was seen almost every week in the big hospitals, was another disease brought on by smoking. One of the lesser evils was that trouble known as 'smoker's throat.' "
