STATE OF THE MARKET
(By Telegraph—Presa Association.) DUNEDIN, This Day. Offerings at the first wool sale of the season yesterday totalled 10,454 bales, the smallest catalogue for a first sale for years. The wool offered- comprised few lots of choice, well-grown, clean wools in comparison with this sale of a year ago, the bulk of the offering showing signs of the severe winter and late spring. There was also a fair proportion of wool offered that was held over from last year. In most cases this wool opened out in a stained condition. Competition from Continent was especially keen. Bradford buyers also operated keenly on wools suitable for requirements; 'any super lots were taken by New Zealand mills. Market firm on recent sales held in South Island. Top price was 9^d for a choice line of super half-bred. The following is the official range of prices:—Merino, average 6d to 7%d, inferior 5d to 5%d; fine half bred, extra super B%d to 914 d, super 7%d to S^d, average 6%d to 7%d, inferior 5d to Cd; medium halfbred, extra super 7'/4d to Bd, average 6d to 7d, inferior 5d to 6d; coarse halfbred, super 6%d to 7d, average 5%d to 6%d, inferior 4%d to sd; fine crossbred, super Od to 6%d, average 5d to 5%d, inferior 4%d to 4%d; medium crossbred, super 5%d to 6%d, average 5d to 5%d,_ inferior 4d to 41/f ! d; bellies and pieces, merino —good to super 5d to 6d, low to medium 3%d to 4y s d; halfbred—good to super 4%d to 7%d, low to medium 3d to 4%d; crossbred —good to super 3%d to sd, low to medium 2%d to 3%d; crutchings—good to super 2%d to 3%d, low to medium Id to 2d ;locks—merino to 2%dj halfbred lYzd to 2d, crossbred Id to l%d.
