Ross, a former labour jour« nalist in Wellington, has been -appoint": ed to the board of commissioners of thq Savings Bank of Victoria, succeeding: tho late Sir James M'Gay. Mr. Ross, who is a vice-president of the Victorian branch of the' Australian Labour, Party and a member of the Trades--Hall Council, to which he is a delegate from' the Clerks' Union, has taken' a leading part in labour movements in Broken Hill, Brisbane, and. New. Zealand, as ■well as in Victoria. He was editor of the "Barrier Truth", at Broken Hill for several years, and was editor of the"Maoriland Worker." At present he produces a publication dealing with social ani national subjects. With the chairma^, of the Trades :Hall Council. (Mr. D. Cameron) ho is also responsible for thai production of the "Socialist." He is a member and former secretary of the Socialist Party. In addition -to - hia other activities Mr; Ross is ono of the industrial representatives on the University Council and is a trustee of thai Public Library and' National' Gallery, He has been a'delegate to many Labou^ conferences.
