A DIFFICULT PERIOD
TRAMWAY REVENUE
A conference was held yesterday afternoon between the general manager of the Traiimvays Department (Mr. M. (Mile), the assistant manager (Mr. E, 0. Petersen), the traffic manager (Mr. D. M'Gillivray), and officials of the Tramway Employees 3 Union regarding ways and means of meeting the difficulty which, has developed through the drop in tramway revenue.
A few weeks ago it was agreed that expenses should be reduced at the. Kilbirnie workshops by the closing of the shops, except for urgent work, on Saturday morning. It is now proposed that "further rationing shall be^accepted by the employees in the service generally, as an alternative to the dismissal of men. A'o finality has yet been reached.
If such an arrangement is made it will bo a tempprary one only', upon a "gentleman's agreement." Already it has been indicated that after the New Year further cuts will be made in the tramway service, for instance, by giving a quarter hour or twenty minute service on present ten minute routes during the slack hours of the day.
