KRRATIC DRIVING
Noticed to be, driving his ear in an erratic manner in Featherston street shortly "af.tcr 6 o'clock last, evening, AH'ieJ Jatncs Staple-ton, a warehouseman, aged 23, was followed by :i constabLo in another ear. In Victoria street Stajileton was overtaken, and the conatablo'saw that ho was in a decided state of intoxication, and as a result lit; was'arrested. St'aplcton, for whom Mr. W. L\ Leicester appeared, pleaded guilty when charged before -Mr. E. Page, 6.M., in tlie Magistrate's Court to-day. "In those eases," said Mr. Leicester, "counsel i'eols much as a four-year-old "must feel breasting the barrier with Pliar Xap—that he is not going to look very -well at the finish." Counsel said that the accused was a commercial traveller add warehouseman and had called on a man at a hotel in Potone yesterday. He was induced to have something to drink, and unfortunately had tab much. He had never been in trouble before. The accused-was fined £20, and his ' licence was suspended for six months.
