BOOKMAKER CHARGE
"SUBSTANTIAL BUSINESS'"
Arrested at noon to-day by Detective Baylis and Constable Ritchie,- George Frederick Leney, aged 38, was this afternoon fined £200 by Mr. E. Page, S.M., on a charge of- carrying"on. busi* ness as a bookmaker. Detective-Sergeant Holmes said that, the accused had been carrying on business in a substantial, way. Betting books which had been found- on him,' contained approximately ,150 and 100, entries, respectively. They mostly related to debts on races which started at Christchurch on Saturday, the beta ranging from 5s to .£l. .
