FINER WEATHER
SOUTH-WESTERLY WINDS
Since yesterday south-westerly winds have become more general than was anticipated, and except in Cook Strait they have been fresh to strong. Their direction, however, has not been sufficiently southerly to bring rain to eastern districts, and except in southern districts temperatures have remained mild. Tho freshening of these winds has been due to a fall in pressure in the neighbourhood of the Chatham Islands. Over New Zealand there has been no great rise in barometers iv spite of the southerly change, and barometers are* still rather low right across the southern part of the Tasman Sea. Districts with a westerly aspect have experienced showery weather, but no heavy falls have bqen reported. It was dull in Auckland yesterday, with occasional light showers. In Wellington also it was dull, and the squally north-westorly wind brought light showers to some parts of the metropolitan area. A north-easterly breeze was experienced in Christchurch, where it was cool. A fair to fine day was followed by a cloudy night, and this morning it is fine again, with a light south-westerly breeze. It was fine in Duuediu to start with yesterday, with a northerly breeze, but a southerly change in the afternoon brought showers. Moderate to strong wnds from some point between south and south-west are forecasted to prevail for the present. In far southern and western districts rather changeable weather,, with some showers .it times, is probable, but iv eastern districts fine weather may be expected. Temperatures will be moderate. __^_^___^^__
