CHANGE IN WEATHER
UNSETTLED OUTLOOK
With the passage .eastward of tho westerly depression which crossed the South Island yesterday, barometers have since last night risen from Cook Strait southward. There has been a change to southerlics over this area, 'but westerlies ■ this morning were still prevalent over most of the North Island. There has been a general decrease, however, in the force of the wind. More heavy rain has fallen on the West Coast of the South Island and in the far south. Okuru has recorded a further three and a half inches, Arthur's Pass 3.01 inches, and Greymouth 1.12 inches. Since last night there has been a general increase in cloud, and light rain has fallen on the East Coast as far north as Cook Strait.
Auckland's weather yesterday was dull to fair, with a moderate west to south-west wind. •In Wellington it was fair, mild, aud cloudy, but a strong and squally north-west wind made conditions unpleasant. A mild and fair day in Christehurch was followed by a southerly buster at 9 p.m. Temperatures fell rapidly and rain began to fall at 6 a.m. this morning. Unsettled weather with intermittent rain was experienced in Dunedin yesterday. The forecast issued at noou to-day is for moderate westerly winds north of Cape Egiuont and Napier. These- will gradually veer to the north and freshen. Elsewhere winds will be variable, with south-easterlies prevailing. Cloudy and unsettled weather, with mist or fog, is forecasted. Scattered raiu is probable, especially in, eastern districts of the North. Island. Temperatures in the South Island will be lower.
