Mr. K. S. Williams (Keforra, Jiay of Ple3ity) asked the Minister for a statement on the .oil-boring activities. The work done in this direction was very important,'and many'people would like to know what were the prospects of getting -oil. in New Zealand. ■
The Minister of Mines said he had been informed- that the . oil prospects were very favourable indeed. They had now come within, range of the oil. One company, had stated that it would be able to supply the requirements for the whole of New Zealand, and, in supplying' information, the company had not asked for anything in return. The Mines Department had assisted the companies by obtaining rebates of Customs duties on' their machinery.
