.'■ Two of the foremost cyclists in France— Joseph. Mauolaii'. and Jean Bidot—have arrived in Australia to compete in the big professional 700 miles road race from Sydney to Melbourne, to be held next month. Two years ago in France Mauclair and Bidot defeated the: wonderful Australian rider, Hubert Opperman, but their task away from their native country of conquering the little Australian is looked upon as being lib easy one. Opperman is in splendid fettle, his recent performances including the smashing of the Goulburnbydney road record.
Mauclair aud Bidot are among the vorld's best cyclists. Out of ten thousand racing cyclists in France, Mauclair was selected as one of the ten for this year's Tour de France, and when riding well had the misfortune to fall and break his <:ollar-boue. Bidot has defeated Andre .Lcdueq, this year's winner, of "the Tour ile France, and last year finished second to his brother Marcel in the road championship of France. He represented France in the world's road championship last .yeaiy..an.d was up with the leaders when he punctured.- In spite of this, he finished tenth.
