CLAY BIRD SHOOTING
There was a record attendance of the Hutt Valley Gun Club at the club grounds at Taita last Saturday afternpon, when a full programmer of matcheß was fired. The weather conditions were not conducive .to good shooting, the northerly wind keeping the birds low and making their flight uncertain. The first match was one of fifteen birds for the Tisdall Clip, ?nd was yon by L. A. Caldwell, who shot the possible. The runner-up was C. Y. O'Neill, a new member, who missed only his firtt bird. The second match, a guinea trophy and sweepstake combined, produced a great finish, and four competitors tied fpr fir«t place with thirteen breaks each.. In the shoot-off B. J. Witcombe was placed first, A. Dennison second, and C. V. ; O'Neill and J. Scholes (equal) third. The third match was a double , rise sweepstake of ten birds, in five pairs. The prize money was divided by W. J. H. Haase and H. Smith, each of whom shot eight birds. Mr. W. E. Parry, M.P., was au interested visitor, and took part in the shooting.
