The situation in the North-West Province of India has greatly improved. In particula- the menace caused by the concentration' of hostile tribesmen on tho Western border of Kurrag Valley has beer removed and. the Government of India has sent a message to Mr. Pears, Chief Commissioner of tK Frontier Province, expressing appreciation of the services rendered by those concerned in the defensive operations, including the officers and men 01 tho Regular forces and t-Ko Military and Eoyal Air Force, members of the political staff of the Kurrag Agency, and the inhabitants of the valley for the manner in which their duties were performed in the face of difficulty and danger. Special word is given to the village levies who gallantly co-operated with the Crown Forces. One year's revenue has been remitted t^ the inhabitants of the valley and a gratuity of ono month's pay given to all ranks engaged in the defensive operations.
